Painting Stairs: What I Have Learned Today

Remember when I said I was hiring a contractor to paint my stairs?   Well, the “contractors” (and I am using that term VERY loosely) showed up today with no paint, no painter’s tape, no screwdrivers and a little piece of sandpaper.  You should have seen the look on my face when one of the guys said, “I guess I am going to have to run to the store to buy some paint.”  No lie.  The painter came without paint.   The PAINTER came without PAINT.

Luckily, my mum was here with me and we giggled like silly girls in the other room, trying so hard to keep quiet.  I think we both had a look of utter bewilderment in our eyes.  The “contractors” worked for about 2 hours “sanding” and priming the stairs and banisters.  They were actually looking pretty good, until……….

My mum is VERY lucky I have a good sense of humor.  Not so sure how Garrett will feel when he gets home, but I can’t stop laughing about this entire situation.  Ironically, I was trying to get out of doing the work, and now we will be spending our Saturday afternoon, re-priming all the stairs.   The “contractors” will be back next weekend to hopefully paint, stain, and poly everything.

I am not holding out much hope for this project at this point.

2 Lessons Learned:

1.  Hire contractors that actually show up with the tools.  If you hire a painter, make sure they have paint.
2.  Tell your mother to take off her sneakers before walking up the wet steps 🙂

LOL, too funny! I’ve wanted to paint my stairs since we moved in 13 years ago! I hope you have tons of before, during, and after photos to inspire me to actually do it someday!

Oh my gosh that is too funny! I think I may have told them to go home if they showed up with only sand paper. Hope they turn out ok!!

I don’t know what is funnier. That the painters showed up without paint or that you had your mom step on the steps again for pictures (unless you just happened to have camera ready and literally caught her in the act) lol. I wouldn’t have thought to ask if the painters would bring their own paint or if I was supposed to supply it.
