Family Room Update: Plus Details About the Sofa Debacle

Just a few sneak peeks of our family room/kitchen redo!
Let’s just say, we can’t wait until this is finished, which won’t be for at least a few more weeks.

In case you are new or just want to laugh at us, please refer to the old posts here, here, and here.   If you would like to see how our old family room looked, go here.

We have been sitting on bean bag chairs for the last 11 weeks, so when we found out that the sofa/sectional we had custom ordered was missing (yes, it went missing), we didn’t know whether to laugh, cry, or call a chiropractor.   The thought of going much longer without a sofa was enough to even make Garrett a little teary eyed.  hah.   I think it was meant to be, though, because we ended up ordering  beautiful Henry sectional from West Elm and it arrived 1.5 weeks later.  Thank goodness.
I am not going to lie.  I hugged the sofa when it arrived.  I snuggled it and I told it how much I loved it.  The sofa is a welcome addition into our house.  The kids even talk to it.

Here is a quick picture of the sofa with a new side table.
That lovely floral fabric is going to be made into the curtains (when I find the time).  I LOVE that fabric! (and it wasn’t exactly inexpensive, so I am having this terrible fear of cutting into it)
It is Thomas Paul Agean Dahlia fabric, in case any of you want to find it online.
Not only did we deal with the sofa debacle, Garrett also had the “fun” job of basically repainting almost every room in our house (with the exception of a few… I am nice like that)

This picture shows the walls all primed.  I will definitely show pictures of the finished product soon!
Not only did we sell our old sofa, we sold the hutch in the kitchen breakfast area, the kitchen table, the kitchen chairs, the barstools, tv stand, rug, side tables, coffee table…. are you seeing why everyone thinks I am nuts?

I have slowly been finding the perfect pieces to fill the room.

New buffet for breakfast area
New barstools for around the island
(they are the same as the new kitchen chairs)
Rug for under the kitchen table
(the new kitchen table isn’t pictured because it has to be painted)
pops of color with wall art
And of course, lots of accessories for our massive new tv wall cabinets.  We LOVE our new wall unit!
I made the boxes in the tv cabinet match my new lamp shades  (tutorial for the lamp shades found HERE)
We are super happy that things are finally progressing, but we still have a bunch to do:
*coffee table (I plan to upholster it)
*make curtains
*paint fireplace mantle
*get artwork for above sofa (or possibly make it!)
*refinish kitchen table
*buy 2 side chairs to flank the fireplace
*make pillows

Slow and steady…. slow and steady….

It’s looking great so far. I love how fresh it looks. I bet you are thrilled to finally have a sofa! I just bought a new sofa and chair today, too. It was completely unexpected, but now that I’m sitting on it I’m thrilled we made the decision. Now, I just hope we sell our old sofas!

I love how your house turned out! We are beginning the process of selling all of our old items and buying new! We have a wonderful couch that we paid a fair amount for but it is just too small for our family. Now we need to buy a new one and I love the look of the West Elm couches but are they comfortable and good quality? How has your couch held up? I’m so nervous to get rid of our old one. Any feedback on your new couch would be super appreciated!!! Thanks and enjoy your house!
