In the book, she discusses backdrops, which can make a HUGE difference. She also talks about metering (which I have struggled with for SO long, until I read her e-book), aperture, and ISO. All of these things are essential for understanding how to take DSLR photos. Even if you have a point and shoot, there are lots of tips, including reflectors and lighting.
Vanessa makes sure to explain techniques very clearly and with lots of lovely photographs. One of my favorite things is that she shows real life applications of photography techniques, which encourages everyone to try them out.
