Videos of Ethan: Autism Awareness Month

As many of you know, my son Ethan is Autistic and we have fought so incredibly hard for all the opportunities he has had in life.  He makes us so proud every single day.

April happens to be Autism Awareness month and April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day!

I would like to share a few videos of Ethan and his amazing number and letter abilities.  He amazes us with what he teaches himself.  These videos show two of his self-taught “tricks”.

Ethan has been obsessed (seriously obsessed) with numbers for as long as we can remember.  He was able to recognize numbers and the words for numbers before he could even speak.
(remember when I threw him a Number Party last year?)

Just last year, Ethan started using his fingers to represent numbers.  He takes his fingers and actually forms the shape of each number and he refers to his hands as his “timer”.  He can go from zero to 100 in under a minute, just using his hands.

Little did we know, he has been teaching himself how to use the “timer” to add and subtract.  You have to just watch this video.
Pay close attention to his hands as they form the numbers.

Last year, Ethan showed us he can say the alphabet backwards (rather quickly).  We were shocked because we had never taught him this, nor had he ever shown us that he could do it.  We thought it was the coolest thing ever, and so did he.

I hope to share more stories and videos of Ethan during the month of April to promote Autism Awareness Month!
