The Jump Rope Dress: Project Run and Play/ Week 2 Sportswear

It’s that time again for sewing along!  Week 2 of Project Run and Play and the theme is “sportswear”.  Pretty vague and broad topic, right?  However, I knew what I wanted to make right away:  The Oliver and S Jump Rope Dress.   I have had that pattern in my collection for quite some time and, in my opinion, the classic 40’s style of this dress is reminiscent of vintage sportswear.  Easy to care for, fun to frolic in, and adorably fun.

I used a super soft, luxurious shirting material in an adorable pink and white gingham pattern.  What could be more classic than gingham, right?  The shirting material allows the dress to drape wonderfully and it is so easy to wash and care for, which is great for active kids.
The pattern calls for amazing details, like front plackets, sleeve cuffs and buttons, beautiful sash,
and fun pockets on each side of the skirt.
And of course, I can’t do a post like this without showing off my beautiful model

Ainsley discovered that this dress is perfect for spinning
and jumping!
Is it just me or does she seriously have gorgeous hair for a 2.5 year old?!
Then, she discovered the pockets.
Oh, the endless possibilities of stuffing pockets when you are a toddler!

I LOVED using this particular Oliver & S pattern and I will definitely make it again!

Beautiful little dress! This is going to sound so sad, but I need a grand daughter! I like your buttons — my mom used to say that you should always splurge on buttons because people can tell homemade clothes by the buttons (obviously you can tell back then homemade clothes were less desirable than store bought!). A friend of my daughter’s is having a little girl, I hope I don’t go too wild! 🙂 She’ll have her own grandmothers!
