The Search for Carter
Ethan’s best friend is missing! I have spent the past two days searching the neighboring towns, the inside of our minivan, under furniture, inside drawers, in the bathtub, behind the refrigerator, and it has turned up no clues. Carter was a cuddly, blue dog that Ethan lugged around with him everywhere and it looks like he ran away. I even checked the “Lost and Found” section on Craigslist. All I found there was someone looking for love. Haha.
So, I got the little kiddo dressed and ready to go this morning. We made the trek to Target in hopes of finding a Carter Part Deux. We headed straight for the baby aisle and sure enough, there was a version of Carter. It was a cuddly, blue dog with the same spots. However, even though it sort of resembled Carter, it looked like Carter got a few years older. He seemed to be a little more robust and worldly… full of experience.
I decided that it was my only option because Original Carter doesn’t seem to be returning home anytime soon. Carter Part Deux was thrust into Ethan’s arms and I awaited his response. He smiled at first, thinking it was Original Carter, but upon closer inspection he realized that I was trying to fool him. He carefully picked up Carter Part Deux by the ear and flung him to the floor.
Man, kids are a tough crowd.
Well, in the end, I bought Carter Part Deux anyway. I am hoping after a few naps and cuddles together, that Ethan and his new dog will be best pals.
Hey…if anyone finds Original Carter, could you let me know? Try to look on side streets. He will probably be there.
