On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) went into effect in European Union member countries. If your site hosts visitors from the EU, then your site must comply with the GDPR when handling the personal information of those visitors. The new regulation requires that sites that utilize cookies, or other data storage on a visitor’s device, for any non-essential purposes have a legal basis for doing so. One of those legal bases is obtaining user consent. To assist in gaining the necessary consent from visitors when the GDPR is in force, SHE Media provides a Consent Management Platform (“CMP”) built into its Boomerang technology. This CMP will prompt visitors to provide the needed consent for activities that require consent, such as cookie storage.
