The Coloring Book Dress

This past summer, I picked up several yards of awesome “coloring book” fabric and posted about it on Instagram.   I knew I wanted to make a dress out of it and my new Norah Dress pattern is the perfect way to showcase this awesome fabric.

(if you don’t sew and would like to order a dress from me, check out my limited quantity etsy listing HERE)

While Ainsley was at school this morning, I whipped one up as a surprise…. oh man, she was SO excited when she saw it!   I had it laid out with a ton of permanent fabric markers and she just couldn’t believe that I was going to let her actually color on it.

We sat down together and got to work.
Filling in all of the pictures was tough work, so she asked for my assistance.  I wasn’t going to at first because I really wanted her to make it herself, but I honestly loved the chance to sit down next to her and enjoy a slow-paced afternoon.   There were lots of giggles and stories told… priceless.

The dress went from this….

…to this!
She was SO proud of her new creation.

The hat was designed and cut all by Ainsley, ha

It was such a fun project and she is going to love wearing this to school next week.  She is so giddy about getting to tell her teachers that her mommy let her draw on her dress 🙂

This is as close to perfect as I can imagine. It may be worth the four-hour drive to our closest IKEA to buy some of this fabric and replicate this exact dress. Awesome.

This is one of the most awesome dresses I’ve ever seen! What little girl wouldn’t love getting to color their own wardrobe? Heck, I’d even make a purse out of that fabric for myself! So cool!

I will be making this and I was wondering what markers you used and if you treated the dress in anway after coloring to set the colors!

Nope, as long as you use permanent fabric markers, you are good to go! You can always toss it into a hot dryer to heat set, if you are concerned
