Potholder Pants: Vintage Patterns

The ladies over at Simple Simon are holding their annual (and hilarious) Ugly Duckling Vintage Patterns series and it just so happens that I have a penchant for such humor.

Several months ago, I had stumbled across this gem while shopping online:

I immediately posted about them on my Facebook page.  I don’t think anyone actually expected me to buy the pattern, much less MAKE the pattern.  After all, they are pot holder pants… POTHOLDER PANTS!  Am I the only one that is baffled by this concept?  I mean, what about your shirt?  Are your legs the only one being attacked by grease?  And do you really need full leg coverage?  What are you cooking that you need coverage from the waist down?

It was amazing and I needed to have it.  So, I bought the pattern.  As soon as it came in the mail, I opened up the package… and guess what??  The pattern had already been cut…. which means…. that someone ACTUALLY made these at one point.  Not as a joke, but for real.  Someone really cut the pattern out and lovingly made a pair of potholder pants and I bet all of their friends and family doted over them.  I wonder what they looked like.

Well, I needed to see them for myself, and of course, it wouldn’t be fun without having my husband model his new pot holder pants.

Behold, the Pot Holder pants:

Oh, and yes, I do plan to make myself a pair… in fact, I already have them started, but you know, things that are a bit more important got in the way.  Don’t worry, they WILL happen at some point, I promise.

The potholder pants almost rank close to my last ugly vintage pattern.
Anyone remember this one?
It is still hanging in my studio and I do want to wear it to the grocery store sometime… anyone dare me?
