Turn the Sydney Pinafore into a Maxi Dress!

Guess what guys?  I have Erin from Crafty Biggers today sharing how she turned the Sydney Pinafore into a maxi dress!  How cool is that?  And Erin is so super sweet to top it off!  Make sure you check out her blog!

Hi! I’m Erin and I blog over at Crafty Biggers. When I’m not crafting I work a full time job (boo!) and play Mommy to my 2 awesome little ladies. My blog is a mix of a little bit of everything but lately I’ve been bit by the sewing but and haven’t had the time for much else.
When I read that Hayley was looking for guest posts I couldn’t send my email fast enough. I was super excited to have the opportunity. Welcome to the Mouse House is my favorite blog. I talk about Hayley’s amazing sewing skills so much my mom now reads her blog. Ha!

Since summer is right around the corner (hopefully) I have been making my girls some new summer dresses. I finally feel comfortable enough with my sewing skills that I have started putting my own twists on my favorite patterns.
I wanted to make my girls Maxi dresses for the summer but I didn’t want to buy a separate pattern. I know I wanted it to be simple and sweet and I immediately thought of Hayley’s Sydney Pinafore dress.
Back in February I had the opportunity to test out Hayley’s FREE pattern for The Sydney Pinafore. If you missed it you should definitely hop over and try it out. Here was my first attempt at the pattern.
It is such an easy to follow pattern and the results are adorable. I only made 3 simple changes to turn this pinafore pattern into a Maxi dress.
I have a very tall 3 yr old so I used the pattern pieces for a 4T. I swapped out the straps for ribbon, changed the length of the bottom to 25″ (including seam allowances and finishing edge), and shortened the top of the bib by 2″. After that I just followed along with the original pattern.

Here are some pics of my Abby rocking her new Maxi dress.

She picked out the buttons. Since watching Barbie and the Pop Star she has had an obsession with boots and anything with stars on it. 🙂
If you get a chance I’d love for you to stop over at Crafty Biggers and hang out a while.
Thanks again Hayley for letting me stop by and share. 🙂

Absolutely adorable. Erin, is obviously, a blogger that does it all. This maxi version of the pinafore is so precious. What a great tutorial.
