Please spread the word… Please

I came across this video via Facebook and I am so incredibly saddened by the actions of the teachers, teacher’s aides and the school district.  To make it even worse, I grew up a town over.

As as a parent of an Autistic child, PLEASE watch this video and become an advocate for your child.  You might be the only person watching out for your child’s well-being.

I cried.  I cried watching this video.  I hope no one EVER treats Ethan this way because if they do, I swear on everything I am… I will find you and out you, just like this man did.

Please watch the video.  It is long, but so insightful.  I promise.

    I don’t know what to say. I’m horrified. I’m outraged. I’m scared.

That’s shocking… horrible. I can’t imagine why someone would do that.
But, I can garuntee, that for the 1 teacher, there are 100 more who will love any child for who there, no matter the challenges.
I’m a teacher, and I can honestly say, that some of my most rewardign teaching has been teaching autistic children. Every child has their own special spirit, and while I enjoy teaching all children, I find that often it’s autistic children – or children with other needs – who chine the brightest, and share their spirit in different ways.

Find teachers who will love your son for who he is – and don’t put up with any crap. Fight for what he needs,a nd what you need…. but also give the teacher the benefit of the doubt. Ask question!!! Ask about why they’re doing things certain ways – they will probably have a reason that will make sense.

C, you are absolutely right and I know how many amazingly wonderful teachers are out there. I hope that my son and daughter have teachers that are as caring as you!

Hayley, when I started this video, I confess, I thought it was going to be one more gratuitous slam against teachers who work so hard for the future of all of us for very little compensation. But I am shocked and appalled. I would very much like to know why the teacher was not fired — tenure or not — as a lawyer, I find that incredible, as the wife of an elementary school teacher who mainstreams kids with all sorts of learning differences, I just cannot believe this. I know this would not happen in our school district — I know these people can be fired, we helped make it happen twice to protect children. I was all set to tell you horror stories of how parents treat teachers, about the first year teacher whose tires were slashed by the father of a student — but that is nothing compared to this! My son is working on his PhD in Neuroscience for Education. He works with autistic kids, uses a fMRI to study their brains when they are solving all different kinds of problems; he has a friend who worked in a self-contained class of students like Akian – and that friend delighted in the gifts each of those students brought to class every day and to him in the different ways they think and learn and the connections they make. NOW I’m crying for the few who poison the world for so many. I will pray that Ethan know only Bens and Charlies, never any Jodis and Kellys.

I just put it on FB — teacher appreciation week is coming up so I thought it was a good reminder to appreciate the good teachers.

Oh. Oh my. I just watched this video for the first time and I am enraged. I too would hunt down any person who bullied my child(ren).

    Hunt. Them. Down.

Why are these teachers still employed??
