Project Run and Play: Week 3 Sewing Through the Decades

Super excited about this week’s edition of Project Run and Play !  The topic is “Sewing Through the Decades” and I chose the late 1940’s/early 1950’s and I immediately knew what type of dress I would make:

I love the polka dots and the “poofiness” of the skirt.  I added a ric rac detail to the top and created puff sleeves.  Everything was very simple and not too frilly.
The back of the top is also very simple.  Just some sweet red buttons.
And I love how it turned out!  I tried, I really really tried to get some good photos of Miss Ainsley in her dress, but she isn’t exactly the most, um, cooperative child.  (did I make it sound nice enough?)
The “photo shoot” started out innocently enough and went downhill fast.  Real fast.
I tried bribing with candy.  I tried balloons.  I even offered to let her run around with Daddy’s hammer.
She wanted nothing to do with it.

Uh oh.
It begins.
The tantrum.

YOU!
You are making me mad!
I am not going to cooperate!
I am going to take these flowers.
And I am going to throw them.
Just to prove how mad I am.

Doesn’t she look so innocent and sweet?

It is only a ploy.  I promise.

I saw this on Pinterest. I love the fullness of this dress and the gathering in the bodice. Sometimes just adding something like a gathered bodice can totally make a design! Great idea and lovely dress and of course a lovely little model:) tears and all.
