Our Home Resolutions for 2012

Most people make personal resolutions for themselves when the new year begins and we like to make a list of  Home Resolutions.  Strange, but true.  Garrett and I sit down and discuss what we would like to accomplish with the house during the upcoming year (have I ever mentioned how wonderful of a husband he is??)

We certainly accomplished a lot last year, but we hope to do even more this year!  Here is our compiled list, which we will probably look back on next year and laugh about how we only got half of it done 🙂

Mouse House Resolutions: 2012

1.  Stop obsessing about our living room  and just enjoy it.  We recently rearranged the room {yes, again} and we are mostly happy with it!  We do need to trim out the windows, trim out the doorway, and get hardwood floors in there, but it is done for now!  I will blog about it soon, but here is a sneak peek:

2.  Finish Ainsley’s Big Girl Room .  She will be moving from the crib to her big girl bed this year, so it is time to get motivated and put the finishing touches in there.  Shelves have to be hung, pictures need to be painted, and some trim work will follow.

I also need to paint and reupholster this chair for her:

3.   Last summer, we spent a weekend ripping out the yucky carpet on the stairs and in the upstairs hallway.  I blogged about it HERE.  Well, we are FINALLY starting the process of installing new flooring in the hallway and I will eventually be refinishing/repainting the stairs.  I will definitely post updates as they occur!

Here is a picture of us during the Great Carpet Removal 🙂

4.  Start renovating the Kitchen , slowly but surely.  We plan to paint all the cabinetry, add a backsplash, put up bead board details, and finally make the island appear more furniture-like.  This is a big project{not to mention expensive} so we are going to have to take our time with this one!

5.  Finish the Dining Room .  It is finished for the most part, but I still need to make new curtains, complete the gallery walls, and buy accessories for the table and buffet.  We are also getting hardwood floors in this room, so a rug will have to be added.

6.  Continue to work on the backyard.  We accomplished A LOT with our backyard this past year, including installing a new fence, ripping out a large area of brush, re mulching, and adding a playground for the kids.  However, we still need to fix up our deck, start a compost pile, and plant the vegetable garden.

7.  Finish the upstairs playroom for the kids.  Long story short, I used to have my Craft Room upstairs in the 4th bedroom, but it didn’t work out so well because it would wake them up when I tried to work late at night.  I have since moved my craft studio down to the basement {see the next resolution for more details, haha}.  So, my old craft room is now going to be the kids’ upstairs playroom.  It is looking very cute so far and I can’t wait to show it to all of you!  Soon, I hope!

8.  Oh my, this has been a HUGE project and I CAN NOT WAIT until this is finished.  If you read resolution #7 you will understand why I have moved my craft studio to the basement.  To see more pictures of the original, disastrous mess read HERE.

The big craft room switcheroo is almost complete!!!  Here is a sneak peek with an awful picture:

9.  Finally finish our family room.  Nothing huge to do in here, but we need better toy organization and we are going to be trimming out the windows.  We also need some better accessories.

10.  This is the resolution we hope to finish this year, but it is highly unlikely due to the high expense.  Our Master Bathroom is the most awful room in the entire house.  I mean AWFUL.   It literally needs an entire overhaul, but there is no way that will happen this year {again, lack of funds}.  This year, we hope to at least paint and “dress it up” a little so that we don’t feel sick every time we walk in there!

And for goodness sakes, WHY have we not ripped this border off yet?  That should be the first thing on my list!

Those are our Home Resolutions for 2012.  Not sure how many we will finish or even get around to doing, but it feels good to have a list.   Please tell me I am not the only one that thinks this far ahead!!!!

I think we are DIY twins. I have the same chair which I finished this year (like we have the same ottoman) and I have to break it to you girl, you don’t have the most aweful bathroom ~ I do. You don’t want to see pictures!

    Awesome list – good luck!
